Ferret Show

The Ferrets of New England made a strong appearance at the show today with Anna taking 2nd in the point class and Avalon and Miss Priss getting lots of "wows". It was a long day for both the ferrets and the humans, and I think we were all happy with the results. This was a first show for both  Avalon and Miss Priss. They are juveniles, so they got the usual comments of "they need to fill out more" and "they need more muscle", but other then that they were looking very sharp. The show went from 9AM until after 6PM, so it was a very long day.

We also didn't leave Massachusetts until nearly 9PM Friday night (Val has no sitter and hubby works late, plus there was a minor lighting 'issue' with the rental car) and we got settled into our hotel at around 3:30AM. Our 7AM wake up call came way too early!

We had to leave the show hall a little earlier then we expected. I have an allergy to the parvocide (disinfectant to kill germs and kill the parvo virus) that all the judges use. Because they spray everything down between ferrets, the parvocide gets airborne and it was making me ill. This was my 3rd ferret show, and I have now reacted to it 3 times; fortunately I am learning how to avoid it and each reaction is a little less severe (I can't touch the ferrets after they've been judged or stand anywhere near the judging tables.....heck, I need a Hazmat suit!). Fortunately, after being out of the show hall for 15 minutes, my throat cleared up and the only sign of the reaction left was an inflamed spot on the side of my neck.

Val was able to pick up some new kits from her ferret breeder friends while we were there. Those kits, and Anna, kept us up ALL night! It was awful. As soon as I fell asleep, they would start fighting again. Anna wanted to be dominate over everyone, so she was the worst. Once we separated her out it was a little quieter, but they continued to play and fight loudly all night. At 7AM we finally gave up on the dream of getting any sound sleep!
