Our Food Mix provides a balanced diet for hedgehogs. Refined over the past 20 years, we’ve found that a robust blend of dry cat food kibbles keeps most hedgehogs at a healthy weight, and provides important proteins, fat, and oils to help with dry skin.

This is the same Food Mix that we feed our happy, healthy herd of hedgies at Hamor Hollow — it’s what they’re happily munching and crunching on right now, and our Food Mix is what they know and love! Each order is packed and heat sealed fresh from our weathertight tumbler.
IT’S IN THE MIX!
Feeding a single cat food kibble that’s too rich in protein or fat can cause health issues. To provide a variety of protein, fat, and fiber sources, our Food Mix blends many different cat food kibbles.
QUALITY OVER QUANTITY
Once opened, the vitamin and mineral content of dry cat food kibble starts to diminish, and its oils and fats eventually turn rancid. Depending on storage conditions, this can happen as soon as after a few months. If ordering multiple bags, be sure to keep the unused bags frozen!
A healthy hedgie should enthusiastically munch through a 2 Pound Bag of our Food Mix every two to three months.
AVAILABILITY AND LOCAL PICK UP
Our Food Mix is also available for local pick up. Just contact us to let us know when you’ll be swinging by, and we’ll be happy to reserve a bag for you! Or we can ship anywhere in the Continental United States via USPS Priority Mail.
SHIPPING DETAILS
We usually ship on Mondays and Fridays, but we’re still a cozy home-based business. Family visits, Post Office holidays, or our own food vendor delivery schedule may delay your shipment.
But don’t worry, we’ll let you know! You will receive an email with your tracking number once your order is prepared.

Current Food Mix
As noted above, dry cat food kibble starts to degrade after a few months, and a healthy hedgehog will only consume about a pound of kibble per month. We do not recommend buying bulk kibble to make your own Food Mix, however, because the unused portion will go bad before your hedgie companion can finish it.
Our herd of happy, healthy hedgies enthusiastically crunches through around 145 pounds of Food Mix per month, so your order is guaranteed to be freshly bagged and heat sealed direct from our tumbler.
The following dry cat food kibbles are currently being used in Hamor Hollow’s Dry Pet Food Mix for Hedgehogs:
For hedgehogs, Ferrets, Rabbits, and Rodents: Clinical Medicine and Surgery recommends dry cat kibbles that are comprised of 30% to 50% protein and 10% to 20% fat. We and other breeders, however, have found that our hedgehogs are happier and healthier towards the lower end of those percentages, in the 30% to 35% protein and 10% to 15% fat ranges.
