OUR STORY

Hamor Hollow Hedgehogs was founded in 2003 by Kelly and Sean Sosik-Hamor. We are a USDA-licensed, registered, and inspected hedgehog breeder and rescue operating out of our private home in scenic Pelham, New Hampshire.

As a husband and wife team, we coincidentally both had hedgies in our lives since 1995. While we can’t say that hedgehogs are the sole thing that brought us together, each of us already having a hedgie in our respective families definitely broke the ice when we were introduced!

After we got married in 1998 and our first pet store hedgies passed away, we had trouble finding a local reputable breeder. So we decided to become a breeder ourselves!

STARTING OUR ARRAY

At the time, all we could find locally in Massachusetts and New Hampshire were unlicensed pet stores selling unsocialized hedgehogs. So we expanded our search to the rest of New England, The Mid-Atlantic, The Midwest, and Alaska! After a bit of networking we became fast friends with breeders all around North America!

It was important to start our array with diverse bloodlines so many a road trip was planned to visit breeders throughout the United States. After traveling to Niagara Falls, Maryland, Missouri, Kansas, and even meeting up with a breeder from Alaska, our array was finally starting to take shape!

GETTING LICENSED

After researching the Animal Welfare Act we quickly realized that we wouldn’t be exempted as a Pocket Pets or Hobby Dealer which limits possession to four female animals. Since we were definitely planning on having more than four female hedgies in our array we started the USDA licensing process.

By early 2004 we received our UDSA Class A breeder license (14-A-0020) in Massachusetts. Once we relocated to New Hampshire our license was updated (12-A-0008, 12-A-0016).

At any time you can check our (or any other breeder’s) licensing status on the list of persons licensed or registered under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).
