Stop Look Listen Live

The hedgehog safty campagin is back and running strong. Well, technically it never left, its always been a big hit with kids in England. We just don't hear about it because, well, we don't have wild hedgehogs running around all over the place in the US. Here's the latest news story from News & Star

KIDS ARE LEARNING TO BE BRIGHT Published on 27/10/2006

A CAMPAIGN has been launched in Cumbria to encourage youngsters to be more visible after it was revealed that three quarters of children killed in accidents last year were cycling or on foot.

The clock change means brighter mornings but darker evenings and last year more than half of the accidents involving child pedestrians in the north west occurred between 3pm and 6pm.

The “Be Safe Be Seen” campaign was launched on Wednesday by Transport Secretary Douglas Alexander to urge children to be safer by wearing fluorescent clothes by day and reflective clothing in the dark.

To coincide with the new adverts and campaign, Cumbrian road safety officer Bridget Stanley has been visiting local schools.

They include St Bridget’s Church of England in Parton, where children came face to face with hedgehogs, to coincide with the animated adverts featuring Spike the hedgehog on television.

Meanwhile ‘Walking Buses’ are operated by primary schools across Cumbria as a safer way for children to get to and from classes.

Hit the first link to get sucked into hours of cute hedgehog fun. You will hear the Hedgehog Safety Song  and be able to play a 'collect the cards' game (if you live local, kids can win a bike, but even if you don't you can still have fun). There is also a cute game where you are a hedgehog (and you can name your hedgehog, mine is "Pascal") and your hedgehog walks down the street while the Safety song plays. Unfortunately, I don't know what happens because it crashed my browser.

Enjoy! I'll see you again in a few hours....and good luck getting the song OUT of your head!  "You know your on the street  and everyoe you meet, you know which dogs bark, the best way to the park.........."
