3/13/08 - Spring is in the air

...And the nests are full of babies!

We have lots of hedgehogs in the nests right now, so you've come to the right place. Don't be left out, get your questionnaires in now! We have Chocolates, Grays, Blacks, Cinnacots, snows, and uber-pintos some of which are ready for their new homes now and others who will be ready in a few weeks.

We promise to do our best and try to get you a hedgehog, but we need you to do your part too. Get your questionnaires in because sometimes there is a wait. We try to have hedgehogs ready and available as often as possible, but sometimes our moms need to rest and there may be a short wait. We will only be placing our hedgehogs with those individuals willing to take the time to fill out the questionnaire .

It is our policy that the primary caregiver (and a parent if for a child) visit Hamor Hollow either before the hedgehog is ready or when it is time to pick up the hedgehog. We  don't advocate giving a live animal as a surprise gift so we believe this requirement is in the best interest of both the recipient and the hedgehog. While you are here, you will receive a lesson on proper care and handling. We believe that children can make great hedgehog owners, but parental involvement is essential to be sure the animal's needs are being properly met. A new pet is a huge financial and emotional commitment, and we want to be sure that a hedgehog is the right choice for you.

Please fill out your questionnaire completely and to the best of your ability. Double check that your email address is correct, because if it isn't we won't be able to email you. Also, it is important that we have your complete contact information. We do not share your information with anyone, but we do need it for our records and in case we need to contact you.

Get your questionnaires in now because the hedgehogs are getting reserved quickly. The average wait is 1-4 weeks because our hedgehogs are in high demand. We are growing them up as fast as we can. Really, we are. We will do everything we can to get you a hedgehog as quickly as possible. We have young babies who are still with their mothers and growing as well as a group of ladies in waiting. If you are interested, please get your questionnaire in now so we can get you on the waiting list. Our waiting list varies in length, but we promise that we'll get you a baby faster then any other local breeder can.

Kelly devotes her entire day to the hedgehogs, so you can be assured that your baby is getting the best socialization possible. She is also available via email to answer your hedgehog questions and help you care for your new pet. Service is extremely important to us, and we will continue to help you even after you leave with your new hedgehog. When you get a Hamor Hollow Hedgehog, you are getting a hedgehog from a full time knowledgeable breeder dedicated to quality and care.

We will to have baby hedgehogs available in a variety of colors and patterns. Albinos, Chocolates, Cinnacots, Snowflakes, Pintos, and Uber-Pintos are all expected.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the interest of saving time, please read the front page of this website and fill out the questionnaire. We are very busy and we cannot schedule appointments via e-mail or over the phone unless we already have your questionnaire on file.

Please wait 3 days after submitting your questionnaire to contact us. We Promise to answer you ASAP!

A large portion of our time is spent caring for our pets and socializing the babies. Because of this, and other day to day obligations, we may not get to your questionnaire as soon as we would like. Don't worry, you won't lose your place in line.

We are more then happy to answer any questions you may have, but please read through our front page and our policies page before contacting us.

After we receive your questionnaire, we will contact you via e-mail to set up an appointment or to get you on our waiting list. We appreciate your patience and we will e-mail you as soon as possible. If you do not hear from us in 3 days, feel free to contact us and see if we received your questionnaire.

Please Don't Buy 'All Metal' Cages for Your Hedgehogs

metal cageIt is our experience that cages with metal floors rust very quickly when exposed to urine or feces. The rusted spots are rough and dangerous to your hedgehog's feet. Metal also holds in heat and cold, which can be very bad for your hedgehog, since they are a temperature sensitive animal.

If you must have a 2nd level, please be sure the ramp is solid and has a gentile slope. Your hedgehog could get his or her foot stuck in a grid ramp and it could end up costing both you and your hedgehog dearly. So you don't have to worry about Hedgie falling and getting hurt, we recommend single level cages.

If you are looking for an appropriate cage, please consider either a Marchioro rabbit/ guinea pig cage which has a plastic floor and metal bars, or a clear 90+ qt Sterilite storage container with lid.

Hedgehog Food Mix is Available

 food
Do you want to make sure your hedgehog gets the best mix of food possible? Well, we have our Hamor Hollow mix available for purchase here or we can send it to you via Priority mail. Now you can meet your hedgehog's dietary needs without having to spend hundreds of dollars on numerous bags of food that will sit around and go bad.

The mix we sell is the same mix that we are using on our own hedgehogs. We've changed it over the years and have finally come up with a blend that keeps most of our hedgehogs at an appropriate weight, while giving them the nutrition they need plus some essential oils to help with their dry skin. We use a blend of at least 8 different foods, including 6 cat foods, 1 dog food, and 1 low fat ferret food (in extreme moderation).

Hamor Hollow's mix is available for $10 for a 2.5 lb bag

Priority shipping cost is $5.50 for 1 bag or $8.50 for 2 bags (total cost for shipping 1 bag is $15.50 or $28.50 for 2 bags)

Payment may be sent via paypal to kelly @ hamorhollow.com or you may mail a money order to Kelly Sosik-Hamor, 8 Lisa Terrace, Pelham, NH 03076.

We will do our best to get your order to the post office as soon as we recieve payment, however please remember that we occosionally go on vacation or get really busy. We ask that you please place your order while you still have at least a 2 week supply of food remaining.

Why Should You Buy From Hamor Hollow?

With all the hedgehogs that are available in pet stores, you might be wondering why you should take the extra time to contact us and go out of your way to get one of our hedgehogs. Below are a few points we would like to make about the average pet store hedgehog. While you might be lucky enough to find one that is both friendly and healthy, Do you really want to take that risk?

  • Our hedgehogs are socialized and used to people. While we can't guarantee the personality of any individual hedgehog (some are runners, explores, cuddlers, etc.), we do guarantee that you will get a hedgehog that is typically much friendlier then one you would find at a pet store. Temperament is our highest concern when we match our breeding pairs, and babies are held from an early age to ensure they are friendly and used to people.
  • Our hedgehogs are weaned at no earlier then 6 weeks of age. They are kept in our nursery for an additional week to be sure that the hedgehog is eating kibble and drinking from a water bottle. This ensures that your baby has received adequate nutrition from his/her mother and makes for a much healthier hedgehog in the long run. Many of the hedgehogs you find in pet stores are taken from their mom by 3 weeks and are already at pet stores by 4 weeks of age. Due to lack of nutrition and stunted development, many of these babies get sick and end up at the vet before they are 6 weeks old. Unfortunately the damage done by weaning a baby to early is nearly impossibly to undo, and if they survive, many of these hedgehogs end up with severe long term problems.
