They dont bite hard if you dont annoy them, and shake them all about :P
Sounds like your REALLY lucky for being able to get one, They will make good pets because they
dont need alot of things to make them happy, they (of course) do need cleaning, but once a week is about best, And im pretty sure that they can swim. I want one too, my mom's still thinking about it though.... hah, i hope that this info helps you, and Im happy for you ! There spikes may poke you, but only if they feel they need to defend themselves.

It is NOT true that a superworm will survive long enough to eat a hole in a hedgehog's stomach lining. I raise both hedgehogs and super worms. I have also worked in a veterinarian hospital for years. First of all your hedgie will chew it's food. Second of all a hedgie will not swallow something that is still thrashing about at full strength. If it were to swallow the worm when it was still alive the thrashing of the worm would activate the hedgehog's gag reflex. To continue to spread this rumor and believe it is just fear mongering. It IS true however that the super worm can bite and hard when it is still alive and outside the hedgehog. To avoid this I often times will remove the head before feedings if I do not think the hedgehog can hadle it. Most hedgehogs will bite the head first though. This quickly kills the worm and the hedgies don't have to worry about being bitten. It is mostly the younger hedgehogs who do not know what they are doing. If there is any question left on the mater, I would be more than happy to point you to a whole mess of breeders, pet shop owners, and vets that will tell you the same thing.

We have had the same problem with a nice poopie wheel each morning to go along with the boots. We have found that the press N seal wrap helps with this but there are some precautions to think about.

the first couple time you put it on it takes some patience make sure that it is on the running surface with little to no folds or bumps also that it has no gaps or rips where they could get there toes and feet caught.

No loose pieces that the hedgie could chew on. the first time you put the wheel with the plastic in to the cage watch to see how your hedgie discovers the wrap if he starts biting or chewing his wheel you might want to take the wrap out asap. also it doesn't hurt to watch how he reacts to running on the new surface if he doesn't like it he might start biting and chewing it.

now all that said this is not a solution or sobstitution for cleaning the wheel. it does help out when there is only a nugget or two left in the wheel. just take off the old wrap and rewrap cleanwith soap and water at least once or twice a week and as needed. I' ve had some mornings when i come down were thier was a huge mess and had to clean the whole wheel and some mornings where it looks the way i left it the night before.

just remeber take your time on putting it on and to make sure the hedgie doesn't try to eat it.

Good Luck
