Shannon Seip from ‘American Girl’ Magazine called me this morning. They want to do an article on Landre Griffin and Shannon was looking for her contact info. Landre is the girl who won the 2005 Pillsbury Kids Bake It Fun contest by making a hedgehog cake. Pillsbury contacted me last year about going on the » Continue reading…
By the time I finished my last blog entry, the little male had passed away. I wasn’t surprised since he hadn’t been as active today as he was yesterday. It’s a bummer, and I really tired, but I knew they didn’t have a great chance of surviving.
I found the female foster baby dead this evening. I can’t say that I’m surprised since she didn’t appear to be digesting her food. It may be that there was something wrong with her stomach or digestive tract, or it could have been a million other things. The boy is still with us and doing » Continue reading…
I woke up at 8:45AM to check the babies. It was just in time to catch one of the fosters wondering out of the nest in search of food. I checked his tummy and it was empty, so I think the little foster babies may be having a problem latching on to mom’s teat. It » Continue reading…
It’s 3:30AM and I just hand fed the 2 Foster babies. I found one of the babies out of the hut and when I checked him, he was cool to the touch and his belly was empty. He was barely moving, so I knew he needed to be warmed up quickly or he would die. » Continue reading…
I went to Walmart today to buy a pair of pants (stop laughing, really, stop it!). You have no idea how hard it is for a 5’1.5″ 120(some) pound woman to buy a pair of jeans! The petite jeans are too long, and I’m too tall to shop from the midget catalog (sorry, I mean » Continue reading…
ANSI’s little runt was out of the hut when I went in to feed the hedgies. So I picked him up and he hung out with me while I fed everyone. He’s so cute you could just eat him up!* There’s just something about a tiny little hedgehog that is unbelievably adorable. Now, if I » Continue reading…
by Kelly Sosik-Hamor Disclaimer: Every person has their own preferred food mix, their own preferred bedding, etc. That being said, here is my opinion. Before I knew better, I thought hedgehog food was the way to go. It’s stamped Hedgehog, right? So it must be the best and most nutritious thing available, shouldn’t it? WRONG! » Continue reading…

The babies in these photos are from exceptional situations such as rejected and fostered litters. Hamor Hollow and Hedgehog World do not recommend removing young babies or using flash photography near the nest as it may result in an upset mother hedgehog with the potential to either abandon or kill off her litter. It is » Continue reading…
Hedgehogs are intelligent little critters that love to explore new things. They love different smells, shapes, textures, and sounds. In order to keep their caged life interesting, you will want to expose them to a variety of stimuli. There are plenty of fun toys you can pick up while you are at the pet store. » Continue reading…
Decal and I have a routine. She started it, I deal with it, and it just works. Until she decided to switch things up a bit today……. This is how things go: Decal jumps out of her bin when she wakes up in the evening. She likes running around the floor, pooping in the corners, » Continue reading…
Tracy sent this to me today: “How to Fall If you know you are going to fall, try to kick your feet free of the stirrups. Ideally you’ll have one of those long slow descents that leave you sitting on your backside with your horse looking down at you in surprise. If not, try to » Continue reading…
It’s 4:54 AM and I just had to return 2 of I-Pod’s babies to the nest. One was a foster and the other was the chocolate female. I have been checking them every few hours since I introduced the fosters, and most times someone needs to be returned to the nest. Their bellies have been » Continue reading…
I checked on the babies again at 10AM and the 2 non-fosters were both out of the hut. I think I-Pod may be pitching them out. She is also moving the hut and not always moving all the babies. The are eating, so as long as I stay on top of things (read stay home » Continue reading…
Bellies are full and babies are happy; I-Pod is being and excellent mom. When I checked on them at 4AM this morning, I-Pod had moved the hut and the little albino boy had been left behind. It was a good thing I checked them when I did because I was able to pop him back » Continue reading…
ANSII’s little boy was out of the hut running around this afternoon and then again this evening. He is the runt ofa litter of 3, with his sisters being nearly twice his size. Man is he cute! He’s the size of a deer mouse with all the features of a full grown hedgehog. Now if » Continue reading…
Well, we’ve moved and we are settling into our new house in Pelham, NH. The hedgehog room is partially set up and we are still working on organizing everything. Today I went through all the cages and wrote all the hedgehog’s names on them. We have name tages….somewhere…..in a box. I imagine that I will » Continue reading…
